In this first episode of the podcast, I talk about what motivated me to start this work and where the name comes from. Talk briefly about the five character traits.
I recall some scenarios which made me realize how much work there is to be done.
Talk about where the podcast is going, when to expect new content, and how to contact me so that we can talk about the things you want to hear about.
The purpose of this episode is to lay out where we’re at:
What are the top 5 issues facing young men as well as the generation that is coming of age?
- automation
- lack of practical skills
- underemployment
- social isolation
- loss of sense of what it is to be a man
5 Reasons I’m Optimistic about the Future
- Humans are problem solvers. Conditions will force us to fix this.
- We have more knowledge literally at our fingertips than ever before.
- It’s never been cheaper or easier to start a business.
- Recent generations place more value on engaging in meaningful work.
- The pioneer spirit is still alive in our culture.
Explain how each of these problems manifests itself. What do I see?
- Lack of practical skills. We now call it “adulting.” We use the verb “to adult” rather than referring to it as something that we become. Fewer and fewer people are preparing meals at home. Look at our waistlines. Is it because we don’t have time or because we don’t know how? Fewer schools these days have home economics class; in those that do, it’s certainly not a graduation requirement.
- Isolation. We are more connected than ever, yet more people than ever before report being lonely. The effects of loneliness to our healthy and psyche are well-documented.
